Hair : For Colored Girls Who've Considered Weaves When the Chemicals Became Too Ruff
by Lonnice Brittenum Bonner
Okay...you have all seen my photograph at the top of the book reviews
and you all know I am blonde and blue eyed. However, this book written for women of color
grabbed my attention. First of all there are very few books that are written about hair.
Then there are even fewer books written for specific types of hair. I was impressed that
Lonnice wrote this book.
This is definitely a hair book. No question. It is also a book that has
useful information for everyone that has hair. I loved Bonner's great sense of humor. She
starts the book out talking about hair textures and making a point to say that hair is not
like USDA choice meat. So I started off the book with a big chuckle.
Bonner has been through the ringer with her hair and she is willing to
share the pain and the successes. I loved her story about the glue on tendrils. I could
relate to the curling iron burns.
I can honestly say that this is NOT just a book for women of color. I
learned a lot of great new things about hair from this book. I also had a lot of attitude
adjustment about my own hair. There are 33 photos throughout the book including pictures
of Bonner. That is always a good sign in my book when the author includes their photos.
I strongly recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn more about
hair. If you are a woman of color this book will be a godsend for you. My applause to
Bonner for a great book on hair.
Regards.
