Ageless : What Every Woman Needs to Know to Look
Good and Feel Great
by Elaine Brumberg
This book was written specifically for women that are dealing with the
issues of age. Elaine Brumberg is considered a noted beauty expert. With this in mind she
offers a practical beauty guide that deals with how to stay healthy and look good as you
age.
As always, my primary interest was related to hair. Elaine has one
chapter of the book that is dedicated to hair care issues. Chapter 11 is titled Hair
Today. The hair chapter contains approximately 20 pages of information related to aging
hair care. Menopause and its effect on the hair is discussed along with the impact of
taking hormones. Gray hair and hair loss are covered along with information on hair
transplants and the effect of illness and chemotherapy on hair.
Elaine gives good but general information on the different types of
shampoos and what they can do for your hair. She explains moisturizing versus volumizing
versus clarifying versus sport shampoos. She talks about conditioning the hair and the
benefits.
Elaine provides reviews of hair products. This was disappointing for me.
Elaine does not cover any of the well-known salon formulas that I endorse such as Aveda or
Kiehl or Phyto. Elaine's list contains Aussie, L'Oreal, Matrix, Revlon and Sebastian. She
also seems to be of the opinion that there is no real difference between expensive and
inexpensive hair products. This type of statement makes the hairs on the back of my neck
stand straight up.
After 10+ years of constant diligence and study of hair care, I know
that there is a major difference between an inexpensive drugstore shampoo and a salon
shampoo. I have seen a few beauty experts tell you that there is little difference between
the inexpensive drugstore products and the expensive salon products.
They are entitled to their opinion, but I have long, silky, healthy,
vibrant hair below my waist to prove my theory. So I do not agree with this beauty
expert's opinions on hair care products.
This book has other information that you might fight useful related to
beauty and age issues. Elaine talks about cosmetic surgery and diet and exercise and
overall attitudes as you age. This information seems valuable.
If you are interested in issues of age and beauty, this book will offer
some new ideas and thoughts. I suggest that you make your own decisions regarding the hair
care products that are reviewed.
