Beautiful Braids

coverBeautiful Braids

by Patricia Coen, Joe Maxwell

This 64 page book is one of the most popular ever sold on braids.

Patricia Coen, who has actually written 4 popular braiding books wrote this book with Joe Maxwell. This book was published in 1984 and I had it in my possession the minute it hit the newsstands.

I thought this little book was really great even though I have to admit, I can be all thumbs sometimes when it comes to braiding my hair.

This was Patricia's first book on braiding and it has sold over 700,000 copies. It has been so successful because it is a no nonsense guide to braiding. It doesn't hurt that the gorgeous brunette on the cover has a wonderful braid.

This first book includes the following braid styles:

  • English
  • English With Chignon
  • Dutch
  • French
  • Invisible French
  • Double English
  • Double Dutch Tieback
  • Single French Accent
  • Braided Face Frame
  • Hairline Twist With English
  • French Twist
  • Underbraid

I have to recommend this book because it is one of the classics on braiding. Actually, I am reviewing all of Patricia's four braiding books for this site and I can honestly say that I think they are all a good buy and have valuable information.

You can not go wrong with this book.

The only drawback to this book is that the illustrations are in black and white. But you have to remember that this book was done in the mid 80s. Printing and publishing have changed dramatically over the years.

The instructions are listed step by step and seem clean and concise. You may need to practice some of the more difficult braids.

Happy braiding!
