Ted Gibson Is A Shooting Star

From the very moment of HairBoutique.com's birth back in the mid-1990s I was aware that hair guru Ted Gibson is a shooting star.

Born in my own beloved state of Texas, Scorpion Ted Gibson (November 15, 1965) has risen to become one of the top celebrity hairdressers of all time.

In 2003 he made International headlines with his 2,500-square-foot eponymous salon in New York's Flatiron district.

From Austin, Texas To A Household Name On TV's What Not To Wear

The brilliantly talented hairstylist and his famed hair colorist husband, Jason Backe, had the hair world in the palms of their ultra-talented hands.

Ted went on to become a household name on What Not To Wear from 2009 until 2013 when he appeared on the popular TV show.

Launching The Hottest New Hair Trend For 2019

Some of the world's biggest celebrity, socialite and political stars have Ted Gibson as Favorites on their smart devices.

Just recently Ted made International headlines for creating actress Sandra Oh's gorgeous wave infused hairstyle at the recent Golden Globes where the lovely star was a co-host and Globe winner.

By working his legendary hair magic and cutting bangs into Sandra's naturally textured hair Ted launched the hottest hair trend for 2019.

Ted's famous clients also include, but aren't limited to: Angelina Jolie, Debra Messing, Anne Hathaway, Gabrielle Union, Bella Hadid, Elizabeth Banks, Lupita Yong'o, Gug Mbatha-Raw, Hilary Duff, Ashley Greene, Gabrielle Union, Bella Hadid, Ashley Greene, Renée Zellweger, Zoe Saldana and Demi Moore, to name just a few of his famous clients.

His hair genius is in demand by many of the world's top fashion houses including Chanel and Prada.

Ted started working with fashion hair on the runways many years ago.  In an interview he did in 2012 during his work for Rachel Roy he noted that the first shows he ever did was "Miu Miu, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana."

A Humble Man Who Is Loyal, Kind And Never Forgets Those Who Gave Him Career Guidance

Over the years since I first started hearing about Ted Gibson the one thing which always impressed me about Ted is his loyalty to his roots and the people who helped him get his start.  He is also incredibly humble, kind, thoughtful and just a really good person.

From his humble beginnings going to barber college part time until he began a mentoring program under the renowned coaching of Zan Ray in Austin, Texas, Ted has remained loyal.

Ted continues to credit Zan for much of his success in life and as a hair guru.

Inspiration From The Late Great Horst Rechelbacher

He also never forgets his time with the late Horst Rechelbacher (founder of Aveda) whom Ted says "changed the way I thought about styling hair" and "he (Horst) showed me how to develop products, dress hair, and be an entrepreneur."

Loyalty and kindness are two of my life touchstones which is why I have never lost the utmost respect for Ted Gibson and his amazing talents.  In the past Ted recommended Hairboutique to InStyle magazine.  I will never forget his lovely words and will always owe him my debt of kindness.

A Master Of Reinvention

Maybe because Ted is a Pluto ruled Scorpion who is always reinventing himself, or because he's got secret crystal ball in his bedroom, he is always reinventing himself and his business model.

Ted has stated that the most challenging part of the hair industry "is maintaining relevancy: Once you’re on top, staying on top is a challenge. I’m fortunate that I’ve been able to carve out these different pieces of my business."

He also wise said "you have to have many touchpoints; it’s not just about being behind a chair. I’d tell my 20-something self not to stress so much about money, where I was going to live. Everything is going to be all right and good."

Taking His Own Career Advice

It really shouldn't have been any surprise in 2016 when Ted and Jason decided to close their breathtakingly beautiful salon in New York City.

Even though Ted closed his gorgeous salon, he continued onward with his Internationally famous Ted Gibson Artistic Team consisting of hand picked artists from around the country representing the famous Ted Gibson brand.

Ted also made plans to develop a new product line and to continue to run the Ted Gibson Advanced Academy which provides classes for stylists who want to advance their careers to the next level.

Attracting A New Generation Of Hair Fans And Followers

Why did Ted and Jason close their New York salon?

Jason told WWD at the time "[Millennials] want to be able to create their own schedules.” He also said: “The way that they work is different. If we want to be attractive to that generation, then we need to be inspiring to them.”

Although at the time Jason said "new plans were in the works for a completely new venue for the future" he didn't provide details.  He also explained “our whole idea of an 18-20 chair salon is kind of like a dinosaur.” He said “we want to be ahead of the curve. It’s really about a boutique kind of idea.”

Starting A Brand New Adventure Across The Country

When Ted and Jason closed their New York salon the duo promised they would be creating a brand new business concept.  Indeed they did, in spades.

Instead of just moving to another part of New York City Ted Gibson and Jason Backe grabbed relevancy with both hands.

Surprising many, the two hair gods moved completely across the country to the West Coast where Ted and Jason created a complete reinvention of their famous hair business.

Ted Gibson's Shooting Star Texture Meringue Product

Even while busy reinventing himself Ted Gibson continued to work on creating amazing hair products.

After all, who better to create a new hair texture product than Ted Gibson who's styled hair on a dizzying array of editorial shoots, for celebrity Red Carpets and for other key events?

Ted Gibson created his sizzling new Shooting Star Texture Meringue (SSTM) to offer endless styling possibilities.

Melissa McCarthy in the February 2019 issue of InStyle Magazine swears that Ted's Shooting Star Texture Meringue "literally doubles" her hair volume.

SSTM Works On Both Wet And Dry Hair

Whether you use SSTM or wet or dry hair, you can achieve incredible results.  On wet hair the products creates big, beautiful, sexy blow outs.

SSTM is a high performance product with an intoxicating fragrance.  It has notes of fig and amber which gives way to notes of coriander and vanilla rounded out with creamy coconut and warm woods.

Ted Gibson Is A Shooting Star

By now you've probably figured out that I'm a huge fan of the amazingly gifted and talented superstar hairstylist Ted Gibson. Not because he'll always be a Texan like me, or because he's a Scorpio (one of my favorite signs after many years of studying astrology), but because he walks his talk.

This hard-working, kind and wildly talented man continues to push himself to ascend even higher mountains.

What else would you expect from a shooting star like Ted Gibson?

Recently when my partner and I moved just 26 miles away from our last home in Dallas I was a hot mess.  Imagine how much I admire Ted Gibson for moving completely across the country. I was totally in awe of his chutzpah.

I have no doubt, as he said in a past interview, Ted Gibson is "going to be all right and good."
