Introduction - Kirstie Alley's Hair Should Pass Abercrombie & Fitch Cool Test

Abercrombie & Fitch chief executive, Michael Jeffries, was a media target for the brand's message of only wanting cool kids coming through its doors.  Beloved Dancing With The Stars star Kirstie Alley recently took to Twitter to slam Jeffries for the company's refusal to stock items in larger sizes.  Kirstie Alley's hair should pass Abercrombie Fitch's cool test.

Not to mention Kirstie is amazingly cool in so many other ways.

Does Abercrombie & Fitch deserve the media blast they received after explaining why they only want the thin and the beautiful kids in their stores?  Most experts believe they do.  They also support Kirstie, who is definitely cool due to for her long luscious locks, willingness to share her weight battles with the world and her concern with the wrong message Abercromie is sending to young people.

Especially now in the era of bullying where kids are harassed over their body type, individual characteristics, race and gender.  They're bullied for being different or not cool in any possible way.

Obviously the message sent my Abercrombie plays into bullying by promoting the ideal that only thin and beautiful people are cool.

Abercrombie & Fitch Refusing To Stock Larger Sizes

The media dust-up started with a May 3 Business Insider story about Abercrombie, unlike its prime competitors, refusing to stock clothes in XL and XXL. The story resurfaced comments made by Jeffries to Salon in 2006, in which he said his business was built on sex appeal and therefore "we want to market to cool, good-looking people. We don’t market to anyone other than that."

The controversial CEO was also quoted as saying “In every school there are the cool and popular kids, and then there are the not-so-cool kids," he continued in the quote that went viral. "Candidly, we go after the cool kids. We go after the attractive all-American kid with a great attitude and a lot of friends. A lot of people don’t belong [in our clothes], and they can’t belong. Are we exclusionary? Absolutely."

Kirstie Alley Slammed Abercrombie & Fitch In Media

The outspoken actress took offense to the Abercrombie message, especially since she has publicly waged her own battles with her weight and understands the pain of body size discrimination.

As a result the actress slammed Abercrombie honcho Michael Jeffries on Twitter, taking personal shots at the chief exec.

Kirstie tweeted  "Dear CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch...you are not cute and your head is HUGE. You need to stop wearing A&F clothing...just not attractive enough," .  She also tweeted "Dear Abercrombie & Fitch CEO, If I ever meet you at a party, don't stand close to me. Your veneers are blinding & could take down a G6 [airplane]."  Finally Kirstie posted "Dear CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, arent you the same douche frog that ok'd THONGS for six y/o girls??"

To underline her anger at the discriminatory messages of A&F the actress went on "Entertainment Tonight," to encourage folks of all sizes to stop shopping at A&F.   "I've got two kids in that [target] bracket, but they will never walk in those doors because of his view of people — forget women, his view of just people," she explained.

The Abercrombie CEO finally addressed the issue Thursday in a statement which fell short of an actual apology.  Jeffries said he regretted his "choice of words was interpreted in a manner that has caused offense," stating that the "7-year-old, resurrected quote (from Salon) has been taken out of context."

A&F "targets its marketing at a particular segment of customers," the CEO said, adding that A&F was opposed to discrimination and bullying based on "race, gender, body type or other individual characteristics."

Summary - Kirstie Alley Wins In A&F Dust-up

The result of all this media dust-up?  Kirstie Alley is more respected and appreciated than ever, but the A&F  retailer's reputation among 18- to 34-year-olds has tanked in the last two weeks according to Business Insider.

In other news,  the media reported that an unnamed man was handing out Abercrombie clothes on skid row in bid to shame the brand for their messages of discrimination against those deemed uncool.

Meanwhile, Kirstie Alley's coolness scores continue to skyrocket.  Not only does she have amazing hair, she's maintained her significant weight loss, launched a product to help others struggling with weight and has a new TV series for 2013.

Kirstie has beautiful hair and is cool in so many ways that A&F should hire her to rebrand.  After all the damage their body discrimination message has caused they're going to need a gorgeous celebrity spokesperson to get them back on track.
