Caramel Banana Deep Conditioning Shine Hair Treatment

Introduction - Caramel Banana Deep Conditioning Shine Hair Treatment

Caramels Caramels

The Caramel Banana Deep Conditioning Shine Hair Treatment holds cult status with long hair wearers who wish to embed their long tresses with softness and a radiant shine.

The treatment utilizes all the best moisturizing oils, butters and related ingredients which soak down into the cuticle and add hydration.

This caramel banana deep conditioning shine hair treatment has also been widely used by people with coarse, naturally dry, chemically damaged and/or textured tresses which need tons of hydration.  It is popular also in the African American hair community.

In some circles the treatment is used as a straightening tool for people with naturally textured tresses who want a non-chemical hair product.  Although some claim it loosens natural texture, others disagree.

This hair treatment is known by a range of names linked to caramel because of the color of the final treatment.

Not For All Types, Textures & Conditions Of Hair

Depending upon the type, texture and condition of the hair of the person utilizing this hair treatment, it may be modified to achieve slightly different results.  The treatment can be applied to the entire head of hair or utilized as a spot treatment.

Shea Butter Shea Butter

Although this treatment doesn't work for all hair types, textures, conditions and lengths, many swear by the soft, shiny, hydrated results they achieve.

If your hair doesn't do well with heavy oils and butters, you may want to skip this treatment or only apply it to a small section of your hair to test the results.

You may also wish to only apply to the ends of your hair to avoid oily roots if your hair has a tendency to be oily.

Mixing Directions

1.  Mix together the coconut oil, wheatgerm (or red palm oil) and shea butter in a microwave safe bowl.  Microwave until the ingredients are melted together.

Note:  If you use red palm oil instead of wheatgerm oil the liquid will take on a caramel color.

2.  Pour the olive oil, apple cider vinegar and banana baby food into the blender.   Add the melted ingredients (coconut oil, wheatgerm, shea butter) from the microwave.

Honey Honey

3.  For the final step blend in the molasses and honey.  The final mixture should have a caramel cream color and consistency of melted cream.

4.  If the mixture is too thick you can slowly add a little water to give it a thinner texture.

Allow mixture to cool to room temperature before applying to hair.

Note:  Although everything in this recipe is completely edible, the apple cider vinegar (ACV)  gives it a very distinctive taste which most people might find too strong.  The ACV functions as an emulsifier for the mix.

Application Of Caramel Banana Deep Conditioning Shine Hair Treatment

Many hair experts knowledgeable about this treatment strongly suggest keeping it off the scalp and away from the roots to prevent excessive oilness or eventual flaking.

1.  Use fingers or a clean hair product application brush to apply the formula to either wet, damp or dry detangled hair.

If your hair is naturally fine or thin, you may wish to apply this to wet hair since the water will prevent the hair from becoming too oily.

Note:  You may wish to use a terrycloth sweatband or headband to keep the mixture from dripping into eyes or along the forehead if the mix is applied to the entire head.

2.  Once you coat your hair with the Caramel Banana Deep Conditioning Shine Hair Treatment formula leave it on for a couple hours.

Hair Oils Hair Oils

You may wish to cover hair in a plastic shower cap or plastic wrap since it tends to be messy, sticky and gooey.

If you wish, you can apply heat in the form of a steamer, hot towel draped over the plastic wrap or a hot hood style hair dryer.

Bra Strap Length Or Longer Hair

If your hair is Bra Strap Length (BSL) or longer, you may achieve the best results by putting your hair into a ponytail and applying the hair treatment to the ponytail section only.  You can apply a plastic baggy over the length of the ponytail to contain the mess.

Don't  try to comb, brush or detangle your hair during this time since the treatment is very sticky.

Although some people have left this treatment on overnight by covering their hair with stocking caps or similar, most people find it difficult to sleep with this treatment left in their hair.   Many believe the treatment stops working any further after 3 hours.

How To Remove Caramel Banana Deep Conditioning Shine Hair Treatment

Phytojoba Shampoo Phytojoba Shampoo

After the Caramel Banana Deep Conditioning Shine Hair Treatment has been allowed to remain on hair as long as desired, rinse it completely out in a lukewarm shower.  Rinse until all of the treatment has been removed.

If hair feels excessively oily you can either do a final rinse with Apple Cider Vinegar to remove remaining oils or you can do a Diluted Shampoo (DS) wash allowing the suds to gently foam over the hair to just remove any remaining oils.

Note:  Some people need to do a full shampoo treatment to get the mixture out of the tresses.

Finish with a cool/cold water rinse and when possible allow hair to air dry to achieve maximum benefit.

Alternative Light Version Of Caramel Banana Deep Conditioning Shine Hair Treatment

Some people, especially with fine, thin, naturally straight or hair which holds oil may find the original treatment too oily or heavy.  It may leave hair sticky.  Listed below is a much lighter version which creates soft shiny hair with less ingredients.

Ingredients

Water Water

Mix together:

1 large jar of Gerbers or similar banana baby food

2 tablespoons of honey

2 tablespoons of avocado oi

2 tablespoons of olive oil (EVOO)

2-3 tablespoons of aloe vera gel

1 teaspoon vinegar

Optional:  Water to thin or cornstarch to thicken as needed.  You can also experiment with walnut or avocado oils.

Leave on for at least one hour.   Rinse the mixture out of hair.  Do a diluted or full shampoo twice.  Finish with a rinse out conditioner.

Finish with a cool or cold final rinse.  Towel blot, apply a leave-in conditioner and allow hair to air dry if possible.

Summary - Caramel Banana Deep Conditioning Shine Hair Treatment

Many swear by this hair treatment for creating soft, shiny and hydrated strands.  The left-over treatment freezes well.  Just thaw out what you need and do a series of treatments.

Others have modified the recipe to work better for their hair type, texture and condition.  Some people will substitute double amounts of honey for molasses since molasses may be too heavy in certain situations.

The results of the caramel banana deep conditioning shine hair treatment are not permanent, but will last for up to 2-4 weeks.  It is also reported that it softens hair shrinkage.
