CNN Ratings Woes For Anderson Cooper, Larry King et al

It seem hard to believe that news giant CNN is closing out a quarter, as quoted by Bill Carter at the New York Times, marked by a "precipitous decline in ratings for its prime-time programs."

CNN has been front and center over the past several months with the Haiti earthquake and the ongoing US health care debates.

In fact, Larry King Live is quickly dying with its worst quarter in the history of the show.  The show is down a whopping 43% from the first quarter of 2009 and down 52% in March of 2010.   Larry is falling behind Sean Hannity and Rachel Maddow and in danger of being beat by Joy Behar.

Even hottie Anderson Cooper is having problems. The "Anderson Cooper 360" show who was widely recognized as a leader in the Haiti coverage fell 42% among total viewers for the quarter, and 46% among the advertiser-friendly A25-54 demographic.  "Campbell Brown" also suffered, seeing its worst quarter ever in the A25-54 demographic.

Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly and Great Van Susteren are seeing reverse results.  Fox News, which hosts the controversial stars is seeing its best quarter ever.  "Glenn Beck" is up 50% while "O'Reilly's Factor" is up 28%.  Greta is kicking some major political news ass with a 25% increase in her ratings.

The CNN ratings drop is a shock to viewers who were impressed with the amazing coverage of Haiti and other global events.  However, many experts believe that CNN is drastically trailing Fox because US viewers are more concerned and interested in current political topics including debates and controversial hosts and guests.

Whether this is true or not, the numbers don't lie and Fox and MSNBC are pulling strong numbers for their programs addressing the hot topics Americans are stressed about.  No one can deny that the American people have tremendous anger right now and CNN has been accused of alienating conservatives.

Regardless of the reasons for CNN's rating dip, they will have to stop the bleeding soon or face ultimate demise.
