Bravo's Shear Genius Season Three Kicks Off

I will confess that while I watched Bravo's previous Shear Genius Seasons, I was very excited to see the new Season Three for a number of reasons.

First of all, I have personally met two of the contestants, Janine Jarmon and Faatemah.  I have known Janine for some time having met her right as she was opening her famous Hollywood Salon, Hairroin.

I met Faatemah in the Summer of 2009 at Cosmoprof in Las Vegas.  Faatemah was a winner in the NAHA hairdressing awards and her work was stunning.  I was lucky enough to interview her after her win.  She was lovely and very modest about her work.

In addition to having met two of the contestants, I am a huge fan of the work of Master Haircolorist Kim Vo and of Orlando Pita who is truly a hair icon.  Of course I am curious to see what role Jonathan Antin will take as one of the new judges.   Various guest judges are also expected to drop in over the course of the season including world famous Oribe and Bravo's Tabitha.

I was also interested to see how Camilla Alves would do as the new hostess of the show.  Camilla is drop dead gorgeous and comes from the modeling world so she was bringing a special vision.

My concern about the reality hairstyling competition was that it would include some crazy competitions like in past seasons where odd instruments were utilized to cut hair, which I found a little unnerving.

After sitting in a media call with Kim Vo and Camilla Alves, I was very excited about Season Three.  Kim Vo, who is charming, wickedly funny and knows his way around the color bowl, had great feedback to share about the upcoming season.

Camilla was sweet, down-to-earth and open about the competition.  She appeared to have an excellent grasp of what it would take to find a true Shear Genius.

Since I have a special interest in some of the contestants and am a huge fan of Orlando and Kim Vo, I will be doing a lot of blogging on this show as it progresses.

I will admit that I have a special prejudice to Janine Jarmon since I have really gotten to know her over the years and she is a really great lady as well as a dedicated hair professional.  I will admit upfront that everyone at HairBoutique.com is pulling for Janine and will vote for her if given the chance.  Of course everyone has to make their own decisions but I am putting my preference right out there so you understand if I seem a little biased.

In the meantime, be sure to watch Shear Genius on Bravo/TV.  Set your Tivos or DVRs and watch.  If you miss the first run of an episode you can catch it on BravoTV.com.
