Zach Braff Piloted His Own Plane From NYC To LA To Ellen Show

Comedian Zach Braff of TV's Scrubs was recently on The Ellen Degeneres show to debunk rumors of his own death and to chat about his flying lessons and actually piloting his own plane across country to visit Ellen in Los Angeles.

Ellen opened her segment with Zach, after hugging him, by telling him she missed him.

Apparently Zach had told Ellen he really missed her right after he entered the stage but because of the loud audience applause his comments were lost in the background.

Ellen asked Zach "I don't know, I don't see you enough. How come?" Zach explained "I moved to New York." Ellen "Oh that's why." Zach "you don't do your show there."

Ellen agreed "no I do it here." She continued "but this is really exciting, the last time you were here you were working on getting your pilot's license" and now you flew your plane here for the show.

Zach explained that "he was in New York" and he was "loving New York in the Holiday Season" and they (his people) said "Ellen has called, she wants you go be on her show."

Zach said it was "the perfect opportunity" since he had talked to "Ellen about flying" and he said he told his people "I'm going to fly cross country for the first time."

Ellen "you flew yourself here?" Zach "I flew myself here to be with you today. I swear." Ellen said "first time?" Zach "first time."

Ellen "what's the longest you've flown before?" Zach said he had flown to San Francisco, Palm Springs and Las Vegas "from here" (Los Angeles) when he used to live in LA.

Zach said "my plane was in New York" and Ellen interrupted "what type of plane do you have?"

Zach "I have a Cirrus which is a single engine four seater plane." Ellen "four seater, that's small." Zach "that's pretty small. I just thought it would be the perfect opportunity to rationalize flying across country and I brought you some pictures I want to show you."

Ellen "wait, before you show me pictures, who got in the plane with you?" Zach "two friends, one of who is also a pilot. A much better pilot than me. I brought a very experienced co-pilot."

Ellen "good." Zach "People have strong opinions about flying. I describe it the way people feel about beets. People either love or hate beets." Zach and Ellen agreed they both love beets. Zach asked how many in the audience loved beets. The audience applauded wildly. Ellen pointed out "beets are a great source of iron."

Zach explained that he also brought his dog "Little Rosco" on the cross country flight. Zach explained whenever he flies with Little Rosco he gives him "doggy Xanax" which you can get from the vet which is a type of tranquilizer. Zach said "he put on Bob Marley" on the plane's sound system and "we were just chilling."

Ellen said "Little Rosco probably didn't even know he was on a plane." At that point Ellen showed a photo Zach had brought of Little Rosco after he had taken his doggy Xanax."

Zach showed Ellen some photos of him in the cockpit flying the plane. Ellen teased Zach and told him "shouldn't you be looking forward."

The actor talked about how he thought flying "is miraculous" and that it "is a little scary" but it is "an accomplishment" he always "dreamed of doing" and he "never imagined he would be able to do."

Zach said he "offered to fly Ellen" the last time he was on the show, but she was not too excited about the idea. Ellen agreed that flying scared her a little bit.

Ellen then asked Zach how he liked living in New York. Zach said "New York is wonderful" and because he is originally from New Jersey he "really likes the East Coast" a lot. He mentioned that he had recently refurbished his house and for Thanksgiving he "hosted 22 people including 7 children."

He noted "before he had refurbished his completely house he didn't care if kids visited, but now that his house has been completely redone" he doesn't have a "kid proof house". He said "the kids were going crazy" in his house and "they were like wild animals running all around."

Zach said he was running around and yelling and trying to protect his house from the kids. He said he was "pulling the kids down" from the furniture and "putting them in the closet." Ellen asked where the parents were when the kids were running wild and Zach said "the parents don't care, they were drinking wine." Zach said the kids "were building a kid ladder with other kids."

Ellen asked Zach how the rumor started that he was dead. Zach said "it was really upsetting. I was able to make a joke out of it" but he really wasn't thrilled about the rumor.

Zach told Ellen "this idiot, if I may say, I think he qualified for idiot status. He made a CNN mock up page that was completely realistic that said I had died. He (the idiot guy) said he was a crazy Scrubs fan. He said he did it to prank other Scrubs fans. Zach said "it was a weird joke."

Zach said in just a few hours the rumor of his death had spread all over the Internet and he was getting lots of calls asking if he was dead. The actor said he "quickly went on 'Facebook" to let people know he was alive and it was just a rumor. He said one of the things in the fake CNN page was that he was found dead in his 35,000 square foot house. Zach said "people, I'm not Oprah."

Zach confided to Ellen "I kinda got bummed out when I went on Facebook to say I was alive and I didn't get that many like responses. Zach said "I'm alive."

Ellen and Zach talked about the upcoming season of Scrubs. Zach said "this is Scrub's 9th season." Ellen and Zach talked about how Scrubs keeps getting cancelled and brought back. Zach said "it's like a guy who keeps breaking up with a girl and then he changes his mind." Zach said the cast has had tearful farewells only to find out that were being brought back yet again.

Ellen asked if Scrubs was on a new network. Zach explained the show "has been on ABC for two years. I'm back for the first six episodes." Zack noted the new season is like a spin off and he is only on for the first six episodes of the new season.

Zack told Ellen "It's like the Jeffersons was to All In The Family and I;m Wheezy. I'm like a white Jewish wheezy." Ellen told Zach he was hilarious. She also gave Zach gifts for Little Rosco for the flight back to New York. Ellen gave Zach a little eye mask and a little doggie pillow.

Ellen said "we love you". She also noted "Scrubs airs Tuesdays on ABC."
