US Citizen Amanda Knox Entitled To Hair Appointments In Italian Prison

In her first interview since being incarcerated in an Italian prison, United States citizen Amanda Knox is scared, according to the Associated Press.  Amanda, 22, said "I am scared because I don't know what is going on".

Amanda who originally arrived in Perugia, Italy to study Italian has already spent two years in jail but had now been sentenced to 26 years in prison for the murder of Meredith Kercher, in the house they shared. Meredith was found in the bathroom with her throat cut. Amanda's attorneys are holding out hope for an appeal.

"I don't understand many things, but I have to accept them, things that for me don't always seem very fair", Amanda said. She also reported "the guards helped me out. They held me all night."

Amanda and her former engineering boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were both convicted for the murder of Meredith.  Both claim they are innocent of the crime.  Raffaele was transferred to a prison in a different location from Amanda.

Unlike US prisons, in Italy prisoners are permitted to wear their own personal clothing.  Amanda also said "my family is the most important thing for me. I also miss going to classes," plus "I miss stimulating conversations."

Amanda shares her cell with a 53-year-old American woman from New Orleans, who is serving a 4 year sentence for drugs.  Amanda has declined to talk about her cellmate.

Amanda has revealed that the cell she shares with the New Orleans woman includes a private bathroom which is not common for US prison.  She is also allowed to write letters, play ping pong, watch television and can have hair appointments.
