Michael Ball Plans Rock & Republic Recession Collection

Fashion designer Michael Ball has had a very colorful life.  As his story goes, Michael was a struggling actor back in 2002 when his girlfriend at the time was wearing a pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans he said "looked like crap" on her.

She challenged him to do better so he took her dare. He decided to do better and make her a pair.  From that original pair of jeans he custom designed for his girlfriend evolved Rock & Republic jeans which has quickly became the darling of the celebrity set.

However, like everything else, the fashion world is feeling the pinch of the troubled economy.

Although Michael Ball is a controversial CEO having weathered his share of bad PR and legal issues, he continues to push his brand forward which includes addressing  difficult economic times.

Michael Ball recently announced a Limited Edition Recession Collection set to hit stores on March 1st.  The mini collection will feature just four items (two for both women and men) and will range in price from $128 to $138.

When announcing his new collection Ball told the media, "the days of the $300 jeans are gone".

Rock & Republic is following the current retailing strategy many brands are rushing to adopt which has designer lines trimming prices on current items while cutting back on the variety and multiple options.

As the number of shoppers dwindle from the stores, the designer brands are looking for ways to draw attention to their most popular items to entice shoppers their direction.  Brands want to keep customers continuing to shop on limited level until the economy stabilizes.

Meanwhile, if you have money to burn and still want to spend $300 or more on jeans there are still some Rock & Republic jeans still available at prices over that amount.  The Rock & Republic Kasandra Lowrise Bootcut w/R Black Crystal Pockets in Ambition Driver are still on the market for $320.
