Kate Winslett Wins 2009 SAG For The Reader

Actress Kate Winslett won the 2009 Screen Actor's Award award for Female Actor in a Supporting Role for the film The Reader.  Kate played the role of Hanna Schmitz, a former concentration camp guard.  The dazzling actress was also nominated for a second SAG Awards for her work in Revolutionary Road.

Kate was up against Amy Adams in Doubt, Penelope Cruz in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Viola Davis in Doubt and Taraji P. Henson in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, all excellent actresses but definitely overshadowed by the work of the amazing Kate.

When Kate's name was called she seemed very pleased but unlike her reaction at the recent Golden Globes the British actress was very poised and seemed less frazzled for her award.   Although Kate did not specifically thank the losers in her category like she did at the Globes, she did reference them indirectly in her acceptance speech.

Chignon With Side Swept Fringe

Kate looked gorgeous with her beautiful blonde hair twisted up in a tight chignon in a cornflower blue gown.  Her hairstyle featured a deep side part with a side swept front fringe that softly flowed over the top of one eye and ws softly merged into the opposite side.  The crown had beautiful volume which gave Kate's updo perfect balance for her face.

Kate's speech was well spoken.  She said "wow what a year its been.  I just want to say its been an honor to be included and be acknowledged by my peers.  I believe everyone should receive a medal".

She also said "playing Hanna Schmitz was such a blessing even though it made me completely insane.  I want to thank the cast and the crew both in front and behind the cameras.  The cast and the crew gave 100%.  From the bottom of my heart thank you very much".

She thanked Harvy Weinstein and the rest of the producers and directors and everyone responsible for making the film.

Her speech when she won the SAG for Female Actor in a Supporting Role was short and to the point.  Kate must be getting used to winning for her work which no one denies was spectacular.

Narciso Rodriguez Gown

Kate was interviewed on the Red Carpet live by E!.  She talked about her gorgeous deep Cornflower Blue gown which she said was designed by Narciso Rodriguez.  Her sleek gown was fitted at the waist and showed off her figure.   It beautifully combined the bold cornflower blue color with a beautiful shape and luxurious fabric.  Her gown was feminine but with clean lines and soft frills.

She also said she was wearing a "little bit of Chopard".  She said she picked her gown specifically because of the gorgeous color.

An Amazing Year

She said it's been an amazing year.  She said "I feel very special".  She also said one of the best parts about winning two Golden Globes was because she had two kids and they were't fighting over who got to play with the statue because they each have one now.

When asked where she was keeping the Golden Globes she said right now they are on a shelf between the kitchen and the study/family room.  She said this may be temporary and may be moving them eventually.

Her Oscar Nomination

Kate also talked about where she was and what she was doing when she heard she had been nominated for an Oscar.  She said she was playing Wee Tennis with her five year old son.  They were also doing a bit of boxing.  She said her little five year old boy is hilarious and it is so much fun watching the Wee Tennis and watching her son box.

Kate's husband was upstairs in the house watching the announcement of the Oscar nominees and when he heard her name he came downstairs to let her know she had been nominated.

When asked what she would be doing next she said she is "looking forward to not knowing" what she would be doing.  She explained she is recovering from having such a busy year working on two amazing films in such a short period of time.

Kate also said she is "still trying to get over the fact she got to play two such incredible roles in one year".  She's "still kind of processing all of what has been happening over the past year".  The award winning actress said that besides her great year she feels it has been an amazing year in general and there have been a lot of great films being done.
