Edgy Bridal Style?

Question

Dear Karen,

I am getting married in August of 2003.  I want to go with a hot new edgy look for my hair.  The problem is my mother.  She thinks that I will regret going with a new hairstyle right before my wedding.  I want to look spectacular and am so bored with my current hair.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Paula

Answer

Dear Paula,

While a cutting edge hair style might look great for 2002, will it look great ten years from now?  Good question.  Why not be safe rather than sorry with your bridal do?  Select a classic style that is timeless.  A French Twist can look fabulous indefinitely and can be updated to the current hair fashions with just a few tweaks.  Chignons can be designed to be simple but elegant.  Well place fresh flowers and beautiful hair jewelry can also give you a spectacular look without the risk of bridal pictures haunting you years down the line.

Most stylist will not recommend that you adopt a drastic style change for your wedding day.  If you must wear a different style work with a trusted stylist several months before your wedding to find a look that flatters you yet will stand the test of time.

Best wishes,

Karen

Hair Textures?

Question

Dear Karen,

Can you please tell me what the different types of texture are?  Does this refer to the length of your hair or the color or some other indicator?

Anisa

Answer

Dear Anisa,

Hair texture is classified as either fine/thin,  medium or coarse.  If you pull a strand of hair from you head you can determine what category your hair falls into.  Fine hair is feathery and resembles silken threads.  Some hair that is fine is also slippery.

Medium hair is neither too soft or too hard.  It is not rough like coarse hair or slippery like fine hair.

Coarse hair is rough and wiry.

Best wishes,

Karen
