Soleil Moon Frye's Long Hair Care?

Question

Dear Karen,

I have hair that is about the same length and color as actress Soleil Moon Frye.  However, her hair always looked so shiny and glossy when she played Roxie on Sabrina.  Do you have any secrets about her hair care routine?  Is that her "real hair" or does she wear hair extensions? I am dying to know any hair scoops you might have on my favorite actress.

Thanking You,

Donna

Answer

Dear Donna,

Soleil Moon Frye who played rowdy roommate Roxie on Sabrina the Teenage Witch does indeed have luscious long chocolate brown locks that are thick and ultra shiny.

Soleil (pronounced So-Lay) has been acting since she was the adorable seven year old Punky Brewster.

What does her acting history have to do with her gorgeous shimmer locks which are, according to my sources, all her own?

Soleil has learned to utilize the services of Hollywood and TV set hairdressers who keep her long locks looking spectacular.  Keep in mind also that while filming on set, every actress like Soleil has a hairdresser dedicated to keep her locks at their brilliant best.  The correct lighting also helps crank up the shimmer dial.

Soleil also takes very good care of her hair offset.  In an interview she did in late 2001 with teenStyle Magazine Soleil confessed to using her own deep conditioner for her very long tresses.

Soleil noted that her own personal "trick of the trade" was to but coconut oil on the ends of her hair and let it soak in overnight.  The beautiful actress also recommended that people with dry hair consider using olive oil instead.

Soleil soaks the ends all night while sleeping and then "shampoos in the morning".  In her opinion "it's the best deep conditioner there is".

Should you follow Soleil's advice?  It would depend on the type, texture and current condition of your hair.

If your hair is thick or has a tendency to develop split or snagged ends, you might enjoy Soleil's hair routine.

If it is thin, you might find that coconut or olive oil is too heavy.  Instead you might opt for a much lighter oil such as jojoba or almond.

Regardless, if you decide to try Soleil's long hair conditioning treatment keep in mind that a little goes a long way.

Best wishes,
Karen

Sarah Michelle Gellar's Buffy Hairstyles?

Question

Dear Karen,

I am a huge fan of Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  Her hair is constantly changing which I enjoy watching.  Does Sarah Michelle do her own hair?  Sometimes it looks very casual like she might.  Also, I often catch a glimpse of  hair care products in Buffy's bedroom and wonder if those are the actual hair care products she uses?

Maria

Dear Maria,

The various hairstyles that Sarah Michelle Gellar is filmed wearing as the brilliant Buffy are carefully planned, designed and created in a collaborative effort by the show's director and head hairdresser.

When episodes are being developed and Buffy's part is being written by the show's writers, they care taking into consideration a lot of factors including whether she will be fighting or having action scenes.

Once the script is finished, the show's costume designers work with the hair and make-up experts to create the proper "look".

The hair genius behind Buffy's casual hairstyles, which in reality were very carefully created is hairdresser Lisa Marie Rosenberg

Lisa has done amazing things with Sarah Michelle's hair and taking her in and out of styles that cover a range of periods as well as innovative hair designs.

Being a TV onset head hairdresser is an extremely demanding job that requires as much as 18 hours a day, 6 or 7 days a week.  Lisa Marie does a fantastic job of creating amazing styles for Sarah Michelle around the clock.

As far as your second question, it's hard to say for sure whether the hair care products you see on set are actually Sarah Michelle's favorites or products from companies that pay for specific "product placement".  This is a common happening.  Some hair care companies will pay for their products to be placed on set for various scenes as passive advertisements.

I have heard that Sarah Michelle is a fan of the Phyto and ARTec line of products.  I know that Lisa Marie is a fan of Sebastan Shaper Hair Spray.

Best wishes,

Karen
