Giovanni Smooth As Silk?

Question

Dear Karen,

I just happened to find the Giovanni Smooth As Silk at the health food store and I fell in love with it.  After several months the store stopped carrying it but the clerk told me to check out HairBoutique.com's store.  I found it, thanks so much, but now I have some additional questions about this and other Giovanni products.

The clerk told me that I needed to only use the 50/50 Shampoo with the Smooth As Silk.  However, I have blonde hair and I prefer the Golden Wheat.  Is it OK to use that with the Smooth As Silk?

I have to tell you that I am always concerned about chemicals but tried Aubrey Organic and did not have good luck.  I was so excited that the Smooth As Silk seemed to work over a long time using it with no buildup and no chemicals.  Do you think it is OK to use it all the time?

Thanks for any insights you might have.

Darren

Answer

Dear Darren,

I agree that Giovanni makes great products and I also like the Smooth As Silk product.  There is no requirement which of the Giovanni shampoos you use with the Smooth As Silk conditioning product.  If you prefer the Golden Wheat then that is just fine to use with the Smooth As Silk.

If the product is working for you, use it as long as it continues to give your hair benefits that you feel and see.  The Giovanni line is designed to be natural and minimize the use of any chemicals or additives.  Therefore it tends to be very gentle and should be fine for everyday use.

Thanks for your question.

Best wishes,

Karen

Cell Phone At The Salon?

Question

Dear Karen,

I am a 27 year old business woman who never has a minute to spend.  I barely have time to visit my stylist.  I take my cell phone everywhere.  Even to bed with me.  So imagine my shock and anger when my stylist asked me to turn off my cell phone while she worked on my hair last week.  I complied with her rude request but I am never going back to this stylist again.  What do you think of her request to turn off my phone?  Was she right or am I?

Jennifer K.

Answer

Dear Jennifer,

Believe it or not many spas and salons have implemented and posted a ban on cells phones.  Why?  Believe it or not, many consumers consider their visits to a spa or salon to be their time away from the hustle and bustle of the constantly busy world.  To someone trying to relax, a ringing cell phone can be jarring and upsetting.

Maybe your stylist could have been more diplomatic with you but I suspect that either she or the salon has had previous complaints about clients who leave their phone on during their visits.

A compromise might be to turn your phone onto vibrate and if it doesn't disrupt your service, you can step outside briefly to take any urgent calls.  Another option is to have all your calls go to voice mail that you can retrieve the minute you are finished with your visit to the salon.

Many stylists find it difficult to cut and style or color hair when the client is on the phone during the process.  Since you are taking time out of your busy schedule to have your hair styled why not get the maximum value from the stylist and select another option.

I personally pay my stylist extra to come to my office and cut my hair.  That allows me to avoid road or lost business time.  However, even I let my voice mail stand in for me during my hair time.

Maybe your stylist would be willing to visit you at your business to minimize your away time and then temporary loss of your cell phone may not be as much of a problem.

If you really don't like your stylist then by all means, find someone else.  However, if you like her work, consider some compromise.  Remember, good stylists are hard to find.

Best wishes,

Karen
