I have
been writing about pop superstar
Christina Aguilera since the very beginning of
HairBoutique.com. I have covered all of her vast
array of hairstyles which have ranged from every
possible length and color imaginable.
In
November 2005 the very talented but always controversial
Xtina, as she is known in the music biz, married Jordan
Bratman.
Us
Weekly reported that at her wedding the hair rebel "wore
her white blonde hair pulled back into a bun that was
topped with white flowers". Which of course, base on
hair history was quite tame.
Christina has been busy recording her sixth album titled
Back To Basics - a double CD - due out in August
of 2006 and has changed her hair, fashion and
songwriting image. In her previous popular single
- What A Girl Wants - Christina sings about being "so
confused" and "while she got it together and figured it
out". It seems that her marriage to Bratman
has transformed the rebel and she has not gotten it
together and found herself. Not only are her most recent
hairstyles less dramatic and more sophisticated, her
career seems to be back on track.

In the
months before her marriage the media speculated that
Christina was going bald due to excessive use of hair
extensions and hair dyes to constantly change her image.
Indeed,
Christina had regularly morphed from short to long
strands and utilized a wide range of hues for her public
displays.
Did
Christina suffer from hair loss from her performance
career? It's definitely possible but the recording
superstar is currently focused on her new marriage along
with the work on her upcoming Back To Basics CD. Besides
changing her hair and fashion image, her new album is
reported to be a departure from some of Xtina's previous
works.
According to reports from industry insiders the platinum
tressed singer has incorporated more "beat-driven
productions" with the second disc featuring her with
Linda Perry, her Beautiful collaborator.
The
double set is designed to pay homage to Christina's
favorite historical eras which includes the 1920s, 30s
and 40s. Blending together elements of jazz, blues
and soul with edges of hip hop, the double album is
eagerly awaited since it has been almost four years
since Christina's last work - Stripped.
Christina performed at the recent MTV Movie Awards and
performed "Ain't No Other Man". In
interviews about her upcoming LP and her performance at
the Movie Awards Christina has said that "I wanted to
make it light and easy for people to dance to and sing
along to". She reported that "Ain't No Other Man
is based on feel-good elements of soul, blues and jazz".

Christina honored her interest in bygone historical hair
eras by wearing her platinum hair in a classic finger
wave style (created with
traditional pin curls) that featured big waves that cascaded down
one side of her face with the other side tucked behind
one ear.
Between
you and me when I look closely at Christina's hairline
it appears that she might be wearing either a half or
full wig. Which makes total sense knowing what I
know about Hollywood hair events.
It is
likely that Christina's hairdresser utilized a wig, half
wig or add-on strands that were pre-washed, set and
styled before being applied to Christina's head.
Keeping
in mind that Christina has the best hairdressers, makeup
artists and stylists at her fingertips, her hairstyle,
to duplicate exactly would take a lot of work.
Traditionally finger waves are created through a 'wet
set' that involves carefully placed finger curls set
in different directions and carefully placed in a
methodical manner from the hairline to the nape of the
neck.
If you
want to copy Christina's style but with a quick
rendition, opt for buying a platinum (or whatever hue
desired) wig that is already formed into precise finger
waves. Even better, wear your hair pulled back and
up except for a section on one side and finger way only
that section.
If you
want to recreate Christina's hairstyle on your own hair
follow the instructions listed below. This style
works best on medium to below-the-shoulder length
strands. For a perfect recreation it is highly
recommend that you work with a professional hairdresser
since this can be a time consuming and styling intensive
style.

1.
Shampoo hair in lukewarm water with
products designed to
address your current hair type, texture and condition.
For
colored or
chemically treated hair use products to
protect and maintain.
For dry hair use products to add moisture.
If you tresses are damaged consider diluting the shampoo
or doing a conditioning only cleansing.
2. If appropriate utilize rinse out
conditioners. Follow with a cool/cold water rinse.
3. Towel blot hair to remove excess moisture.
4. Apply a
firm holding mousse or create
a
styling product cocktail that addresses your hair's
needs.
If you have dry strands or tresses that are prone to
frizz, add a good defrisant like
Phytodefrisant to your
mix.
5. Create a wet pin curl set.

1.
After you have carefully created the pin curls, let them
dry naturally in the air or sit under a hood style dryer
until the curls are completely dry.
If
you have plenty of time, let the curls set overnight for
a much tighter set. Pin curls are easier to sleep
in compared to brush or large style rollers.
If
you're in a hurry and can't wait several hours or
overnight for your pin curls to air-dry then use a blow
dryer on a slow speed, medium heat with a diffuser
attachment to dry but curls but avoid over blowing them.
2.
Once your strands are completely dry, remove the clips
and use fingers to gently pull, fluff and arrange the
curls into the desired finger wave pattern.
For more volume or a bigger hair look, use a boar's head
bristle brush (like
Mason Pearson,
Kent
or similar) to gently brush out the curls in a uniform
direction. Use your fingers to help pull out and
direct the curls.
3.
If you prefer
a more finished look, sculpt the sides with a comb.
Keep in mind that the more you handle the curls, the
softer and looser they will become.
If the curls become too loose, touch them up with a hot
curling iron.

4.
Apply a drop or two of a shine serum like
Phyto's PhyoLisse,
Rene Furterer's Spray Gloss
or Robert Hallowell's
Love That Shine Drops
to the palms of your hands.
5. Attach any
desired
hair accessory
to the finished style. Because this is such a glamorous
style, if accessories are added, they should be small to
avoid detracting from the incredible beauty of this
classic pin curled style.
Note:
Remember
to always attach accessories last after all styling
products have been applied to avoid damaging delicate
accessories.
6. Finish
with a good application of hairspray for long term
hold. Ones to try:
Rene Furterer Instant Hold
Finishing Spray,
Robert Hallowell's Rawhold
Hairspray
Summary
Christina Aguilera has gotten her
life together. Not only did she marry the man of her dreams,
she is getting ready to release a double album which is eagerly
awaited. She has also changed her hairstyle and fashion to
reflect a more sophisticated and more mature image.
