fabulous site.
We wish the founders well in their new endeavors.
Texas Hair & Style
I've been fascinated with The Texas Hair
& Style website ever since I found "hair" on the Net back in
1996. Part of what initially attracted me to the site is the fact that I live in
Dallas where you still can find "big" hair if you just look around. When I
moved to Texas in 1984 I was amazed by the hairstyles I would see everywhere. The
Texas Hair site does a great job of capturing for cyberspace what you can experience
realtime in Texas.
Texas Hair and Style has actually been on the Internet a lot longer than I have. John
Moline, the creator of this great site, has had the Texas Hair & Style site since
December of 1995. John is a 1977 graduate of Southern Methodist University's Meadows
School of the Arts. The wonderful photographs on the site are captured by award
winning Richardson News photographer, Mark M. Hancock.
Since John and I live in the same general vicinity I sent him email to say hello and
let him know that I was a very big fan of his site. He sent me back a very gracious
response. I instantly became a bigger fan of Texas Hair.
This wonderful site has recently (January '99) been updated and includes some great new
hair articles and photos. The latest cover of the Texas Hair magazine (shown to
right) is photographed in front of the famous Southfork Ranch...former home of TV Texan JR
Ewing.
John points out in the current issue that "Southfork Ranch, cheerleaders, and
banquet are words which come together to describe what much of the world considers as
Texas".
This is so true. I was traveling through Europe during the height of the Dallas
TV show. When Europeans would learn that I lived in Dallas, they would always ask me
if I had been to the Ranch and if I knew JR. I always told them I had been to
the Ranch.
The latest How
To Create Texas Big Style page has detailed information on how the
January 99 Texas Hair cover hairstyle was created on model Margaux's hair by Kami Vasinda
of Visible Changes Salon in Plano.
Believe it or not, I drive by the Visible Changes Salon all the time and had no idea
before Texas Hair that Vasinda existed or that she could do such amazing work with
updos.
I know who I will think of next time I want a special updo like
Margaux's.
A Treasure Trove Of Big Hair Articles
If you think that the current version of Texas Hair has lots of great
"big hair" information there is more good news. Check out the Archives
section where you can go look at past issues. Believe me, I have read every single
article in every one of the past ten issues.
Try On Some Big Hair
One of the regular features in many of the Texas Hair issues is a section
where you can "try on" big hair. They have some great styles that
you can download and pop your face into. Yes, I have tried it. No, I
don't think my face is right for big hair. I do have to admit that I loved trying on
the different "big
hair" styles.
Take A Peek At The Miss Texas Pageant
Texas may be famous for its big hair, but it also famous for its beautiful
women and beauty contests. What could be better than to combine photos of a Miss
Texas pagent with some great big hair shots?
The July 1996 issue, located in the archives, contains photos from the
61st annual scholorship pagent from the Talent competition, Physical Fitness Swimsuit and The Evening Wear Competition.
The Evening Wear had some great big updos that are stunning.
Fabulous Fifties Jukebox at The Grapevine Opry
The current Texas Hair edition includes a wonderful pictorial of
performers
having their hair done
"ala the fifties style" for the Grapevine Opry.
Experience live entertainment at The Palace Theatre, home of the famous
Grapevine Opry. The Grapevine Opry has hosted such headliners as Willie Nelson, Faron
Young, Brenda Lee, Charlie Walker, Bill Anderson, Jeanie Pruitt and the Judds in its 500
seat auditorium.
This pictorial includes several "hair in progress" photos with
descriptions of the styles that are being created.
Summary
Texas Hair & Style wins the Hair Boutique's Silver Hair Brush for Hair Link of the
Week. This great site is a "one-of-a-kind Internet magazine" that promises
a variety of different big hair features with every new issue. The site,
through its Texas Hair magazine highlights dramatic Texans creating big styles at home and
in the salon. The site even gives you the option of downloading some big hair styles and
trying them on for size. Make sure you stop in and check out all the big hair finds.
Texas Hair does Texas proud. Our kudos to John and Mark Hancock. |
