Romantic Updos

Introduction

Fall is the season of year for Homecoming dances, Fall Flings, Thanksgiving parties and lots of romantic weddings. Fall ushers in the winter months with formal Christmas balls, formals and parties. Nothing is more frustrating than to have a hot new gown and no clues on how to wear your hair. Updos are always a good solution to jazz up any dress or gown. Updos can be worn standalone or adorned with everything from diamond pins to glittery butterfly clips or seasonal flowers.

Contrary to popular opinion, you don't have to have really long hair to wear a beautiful updos. Since the movie Titanic took the world by storm, romantic hair is big news. I have included two romantic updos that can be done on medium length hair. With a little practice you should be able to do these dos on your own hair.
When in doubt, have a friend help you or take a photo to your trusted hairstylist.

It is always important to remember to do a couple of dress rehearsals on your hairstyle so you have all the steps down pat.

This romantic hairdo requires either a curling iron or medium sized hot rollers. This look works best for hair that is medium length to longer hair and is not naturally curly. It is actually better to do this style on hair that has not just been washed. Hair that has had 24 hours since its last shampoo is an ideal candidate because it gives the hair more hold. This style can be worn with or without bangs.

Steps

  1. Apply a quality volumizing mousse, like ARTec's aeromousse, throughout your dry hair.

  2. Use a curling iron or apply medium sized hot rollers to your entire head.

  3. Wait until the rollers are fully cooled down and then take them out.

  4. Let the hair cool and don't brush or comb the curls.

  5. Mist all the curls with a good holding hairspray.
  6. Starting at the crown, twist your hair from ear to ear and pin, pulling pieces of the twist and carefully placing them into loop eye curls and pinning.

  7. Pull the remaining back part of your hair into a secure ponytail.

  8. Tease the ponytail lightly to define curls.

  9. Let your ponytail hang loosely or pin the ponytail into curls.

  10. Pull soft tendrils at the sides and at the nape of the neck.

  11. Curl the tendrils with a curling iron to give a soft curl.

  12. Add flowers, a decorative butterfly clip or sparkly pins.

This romantic hairdo works well on medium length (collarbone) or longer hair that is either lightly layered or one length. This style is designed to work either with or without bangs.

This look requires that you first shampoo the hair and blow dry it smooth with a round brush to achieve fullness without curl. To get maximum volume use a volume shampoo and matching conditioner. Apply a good styling cream to your wet hair to provide weightless volume along with great hold and shine. Use the coolest/slowest setting on your blow dryer and dry hair upside down to provide maximum thickness.

Steps

  1. When hair is completely dry, pull hair into a loose bun and pin securely to the center of your head.

  2. Brush bangs to one side allowing them to fall softly to frame the face.

  3. Use a rattail comb to gently pull out small pieces of hair from the bun and place them in soft loops and pin.

  4. Pin as many loops as you like to give hair the same look as shown.

  5. Spray with a good hairspray.

Note: This updo will play up the shine in the hair since the hair is worn smooth on the sides and at the crown. To jazz up the shine, use a shine spray or super fast drying, non-aerosol hairspray with intensive shine.

  6. Add tiny rhinestone pins to the back of the bun of add one sparkly clip to hold the bangs to one side.

Enjoy!
