Actress CCH Pounder (Carol Christine Hilaria) is the mother on
the newest Fox African American comedy show Brothers.
The premise behind the comedy is that Retired NFL star
Mike Trainor (Michael Strahan, C) returns to his hometown and
rebuilds his relationship with his family (mom is CCH Pounder) in
the new FOX comedy BROTHERS premiering this fall on FOX.
It's an interesting new role for CCH who is famous for her traditional
roles as the tough professional African American woman on the hard
hitting series The Shield and as the no-nonsense mysterious
Warehouse 13.
CCH Weighs In On Acting In Comedy Role
What does CCH say about her new role in Brothers?
She said "I had done seventeen years of drama, I came from the
theatre where you could do anything, comedy, drama, musical,
whatever. But in this town [Hollywood], if you do something fabulous
and you do it well, they say “No, no, no that’s what she does.”

She continued "Brothers is my opportunity to break the
spell and challenge myself and challenge the way people see me. I’ve
gone from crime victims to authoritative woman and now to comedy.
Let’s see how it goes..."
CCH In Quirky Role On Warehouse 13
CCH was most recently a huge hit as
Mrs. Irene Frederick on SyFy's hot new series, Warehouse 13 which
premiered in 2009.
Although her part on Warehouse 13 was smaller than some of the other co-stars,
she made a splash as the take-no-prisoners head of a secret agency.
Will CCH be returning with Warehouse 13? Maybe, it's hard to
say at this point.
CCH Pounder was also beloved as veteran detective Captain
Claudette Wyms for seven seasons on FX's The Shield.
The character of Mrs. Irene Frederick is just one more of CCH's
characters who tend to be enriched with strong but positive
attributes.

It's a testament to this actress' abilities that
she continues on such a high plane in a nearly three-decade career.
CCH Pounder - Life & Times
Born on Christmas Day 1952 in Guyana, she was raised on a sugar cane
plantation. Her parents moved to the States while she was still a
young girl, but she and her sister were sent to a convent boarding
school in Britain where they were introduced to art and the
classics.
Following high school graduation, she arrived in New York and
studied at Ithaca College, where her acting talents were discovered.
Regional and classical repertory theater followed, earning roles in
such productions as "The Mighty Gents" with esteemed actor Morgan
Freeman at the New York Shakespeare Festival and "Open Admissions,"
her Broadway debut.

Her preference for a warmer climate led to her move to Hollywood
in the late 1970s. CCH Pounder made her acting debut in the 1979 film
All That Jazz.
From there she went on to act in
I'm Dancing as Fast
as I Can (1982). She found cult status in the art-house film
Out of Rosenheim
(1987) ("Bagdad Café" in the US) as the offbeat owner of a roadside
café, but Pounder's ultimate success and prominence came with television.

Usually cast as a confident, strong-minded professional, she is
known for her understated intensity and earned an Emmy nomination
for her stint on the hospital drama
"ER" (1994).
She
has performed in a number of highly acclaimed topical dramas,
including Go Tell It
on the Mountain (1985) (TV),
Common Ground
(1990) (TV), Murder
in Mississippi (1990) (TV),
Funny Valentines
(1999) (TV) and
Boycott (2001) (TV), for which a number of kudos have come her
way.
The Shield
The Shield was about an experimental division of the Los
Angeles Police Department set up in the fictional Framington
district ("the Farm") of Los Angeles, using a converted church ("the
Barn") as their police station, and featuring a group of detectives
called the Strike Team who stopped at nothing to bring their
version of justice to the streets.
Michael Chiklis was the Strike Team leader, but the show was an
ensemble cast so all the key actors were routinely featured.

CCH Pounder played the role of Captain Claudette Wyms is a
veteran detective. Claudette, along with her partner Dutch,
could be viewed as the voice of morality at the Barn. As a
result, she was often at odds with Vic over his tactics. Later
in the series, Claudette revealed to Dutch that she had lupus for
fifteen years.
Claudette had been on the police force for more than 25 years,
and was one of the few female African American officers in the
department at that time. During her early days at "The Barn," she
went against the lead detective on a case and ended up solving the
crime. This earned the respect of Detective
Holland "Dutch" Wagenbach, who requested that he be partnered
with Claudette.
Captain Claudette Wyms
In Season 5, she was appointed Captain after several attempts in
previous years. After finally being promoted to Captain,
Claudette proves to be at least as capable as her predecessors.
However, during the final and seventh season, her lupus returned
and began to interfere with her ability to do her job. In the
final episode, she admitted to Dutch that she was in the terminal stage
of her illness. She appeared in all seasons of The Shield.
The Shield began airing its seventh and final season on
September 2, 2008, and concluded on November 25, 2008.
Short Natural Curly Hair - Type 4 Kinky, Curly, Tightly Coiled

For her long term role on The Shield the actress who
appears to have Type 4a or b kinky curls (as initially identified by
Andre Walker in his book (Andre Talks
Hair!) and embraced by the natural curl community wore her hair
very short and "natural" throughout her term as the no nonsense
Claudette Wyms.
The hairstyle was perfect for the role she played and definitely
showcased her strength and professional role.
Although it's difficult to tell exactly whether CCH has Type 4a
which has a S shape or Type 4b which has a Z shape, it's obvious her
natural hair has been carefully nutured for maximum moisture,
fullness and sheen.
Going natural for people with Type 4 hair is an excellent choice
but often requires carefully application of moisturizing products to
pump up the hair's sheen.
For her role on Brothers she appears to be wearing a lace
front wig which would instantly transform her hair into a different
hairstyle without requiring CCH to do anything drastic to her hair.
Many African American celebrities like Lil' Kim, Ciara, and Brandy
use a variety of lace front wigs to instantly change up their
appearance with very real results.
In her private life CCH Pounder is an admirable activist.
As one of the founders of
Artists for a New South Africa, Pounder has energized awareness of
post-apartheid and
HIV/AIDS issues.
In an interview, she said about the pandemic: "When it's this massive
disease, and it's affecting things in five thousand different ways, it requires
great strength and power—and there is power in numbers. So we need to involve as
many people as we can, like we do with ANSA. I call it my little engine that
could. It is a remarkable, tiny organization with a huge outreach. We use actors
and artists with the biggest voices so they can use every opportunity to talk
about AIDS."

CCH Pounder's Hair Texture, Face Shape & Styling Options
CCH is a beautiful and elegant woman who looks spectacular with
her hair coiffed in her short all natural hairstyle. It's
wonderful to see CCH honor her natural hair and her heritage for her
ground breaking role on The Shield.
Of course it should be noted that actors and actresses often
don't get to pick how they wear their hair for various roles, which
may explain why she wore intricate braids in her role on SyFy's
Warehouse 13 or her current long loose lace front wig on Fox
TV's Brothers.

Steal LLH Pounder's Hairstyle
Follow the steps listed below to recreate CCH
Pounder's short tightly coiled natural hairstyle:
1. One of the most important issues with CCH's hair when she
wear's it natural is making
sure it is always infused with moisture.
Start by selecting a moisture enriching shampoo and rinse out conditioner with a color safe formula
like the Phyto Colored Hair System,
to preserve any highlights or lowlight hues like CCH's red hue.
If your hair is chemically
treated or colored like LLH's hair,
onsider using a color appropriate shampoo like
Rene Furterer Okara
Repairing Shampoo
or select a shampoo that works with your
current texture, type and condition of hair. Eliminate dry
strands with
J.F. Lazartigue Micro Pearl Shampoo for Dry hair.
Remember, when you wear your
hair natural, adding back moisture is key. If your hair is
chemically treated the need for moisture is doubled.
2
Apply a rinse out conditioner that works for your hair's normal
texture, type and condition. Consider trying a color co-ordinated
mask such as
Okara Restructuring and Protective Radiance Mask to intensify your existing color. Avoid using the
conditioner on super fine hair or near the roots.

3. Finish with a cool/cold rinse to close the cuticle and help add
natural shine.
4. Towel blot (never rub or rough dry) to remove excess water.
5. Coat damp strands with your favorite customized styling product cocktail
containing styling tools such as a
defrisant, volume
building
mousse, gel or other styling products that work
best with your hair texture and type.
Importance Of
High Quality Styling Products For Natural Hair
Styling products are also key to a gorgeous natural style since
they coat the tresses. Look for styling products with limited
or no synthetic ingredients which can build up and dry out tresses
over time which can cause breakage.
Popular styling ingredients with petroleum and/or mineral oil
coat can coat the hair shaft and seal out the always important
moisture. In the process they also attract toxins, dust and
dirt to the surface of the hair and cause coils to look dull and
drab.
Utilize styling products which will infuse moisture and help to
penetrate into the hair adding strength to naturally fragile
tresses. Use products with the highest quality of ingredients.
Natural hair craves moisture. Look for moisturizing ingredients
such as flax seed, jojoba oil, honey, agave, aloe, and sodium PCA
6. Detangle coils working slowly
to remove any knots. You may wish to use your fingers, a pick
or a wide tooth comb to detangle. Use the system which works
best for you.
6. Allow hair to air dry whenever possible.
7. As hair dries use your fingers, a smooth edged comb or pick to lift hair near the roots for desired volume
and form.
8.
If desired apply a glossing cream. If you prefer apply a small drop of
shine serum
to the tips of your fingers and massage into the palms of your
hands. Lightly brush your serum infused palms over the top of
the finished hairstyle.
