The side styled hairstyles featured in this article
are taken from some of the most recent celebrity tresses
spotted on the Red Carpet.
1. Whether you pull your hair to the right or left or do a
double side style, you will need tresses that are long enough to
nestle on or over your shoulders. Or you will need to
clip-in extension
strands to seal the deal
2. You will most likely have to spend a little time fine
tuning your hair texture with either a hot iron, rollers or other
hair texture creating tools.
3. To hold the texture in place, you will need to utilize
styling products such as hair
gel,
mousse,
lotions, creams or hairsprays.
4. If you desire
volume along the top like Carrie and Paula, you will need to
either utilize volume enhancing products, some back combing and/or
some other styling products for lots of lift.
5. Depending on which of the styles you select you may have to
spend more time fine tuning the look.
6. If you desire a more complicated style like Carrie
Underwood's, you may wish to work with a professional stylist.
7. Sometimes a side style may feel different than your normal
style and may need a little adjustment time for feeling comfortable.
8. This style may not work as well with some types of earrings
as they may get tangle in your hair.

All of the on-the-side hairstyles shown in this
article follow the basic Getting Started Steps.
1. Shampoo
hair with a
product designed to address your hair's
special needs. If you
color, highlight or chemically
treat your hair, select a shampoo that supports those
treatments. If you prefer, use a dilution formula or a
conditioning only (CO) treatment.
Note: For extra volume in the crown or top of the
hair areas, try
PhytoVolume Shampoo
or
PhytoVolume Mousse Shampoo.
Note: It is often
easier to create all of these various on-the-side hairstyles when hair is slightly aged from the last shampoo.
Newly washed, soft, or slippery hair, can often be trickier to
work with then “day old” hair.
If your hair is naturally slippery, you may wish to let your
hair "age" a few hours after shampooing before
attempting an of these styles.
2. Apply the appropriate
rinse-out conditioners.
(Avoid if hair is super thin or fine). Keep in mind that
if hair is too soft it will be harder to back comb.
3. Finish with a cool/cold water rinse to close
cuticles and encourage natural shine.
4. Towel blot and apply very light cocktail of desired
leave-in detangler,
conditioner or styling products (firm
holding
mousse
or
gel
depending on your type and texture of hair).
5. For extra volume along the crown and sides,
apply a firm holding
or
sculpting gel.
6. Blow dry hair straight using a blow dryer with a
concentrator attachment. If hair is naturally curly or
wavy, apply
a straightening balm like
Phytodefrisant or similar to damp strands. Use
a boar's head style paddle brush and separate hair into
individual sections.

hair perfectly straight read

Complete the basic Getting Started Steps
listed above.
1. Once hair is completely dry, create the desired
part. Amy rocks a deep side swept part that
directs a large section of hair up and over to the left
side of her square shaped face.
2. Use a brush or fingers to smooth hair along the
hairline and the sides.
3. Pull all hair into a traditional ponytail.
You have the option to position the base of the pony
behind the ear like Amy, or position the base underneath
the ear lobe. Use a
Bungee Band,
Blax
or similar "hair friendly" elastic band in the same
color as your hair.
4. Use a small to medium barrel curling iron to
create a series of curls.
Note: As you release each curl from the iron,
roll it around your finger and then pin against the
scalp to allow the curl to cool into a tighter coiled
shape.
5. When all the curls are cool, unpin them and use fingers
to tousled into soft waves and curls like Amy's.
6. Take one strand of hair from the ponytail and wrap it up
and over the base. Use a bobby pin in the same color as your
hair to secure the strand of hair around the base. Spray well
with firm holding styling spray like
PhytoPro Strong Finishing Spray.
7. Apply a light touch of
shine product to add shimmer. Remember not to
apply too much shine product.
8. For extra dazzle, attach a jeweled ponytail wrap or pin
a simple jeweled bobby along the hairline.
If your hair is naturally curly or wavy, you may prefer to create
this style by using a long finger diffuser on your strands to create
natural waves.
To Create Carrie Underwood's On-The-Side Veronica Lake Style
 |
|
Carrie
Underwood
2007 |
|
DailyCeleb.com - All rights reserved. |
Carrie looks stunning for a formal event in a super
sleek, sophisticated yet sexy side hairstyle.
Complete the basic Getting Started Steps listed above.
1. Once tresses are completely dry, create the
desired part and fringe or bang area.
Carrie has a very deep part that extends all the way back from
the crown of her head with all of the hair brushed forward towards
the face line and then over into a very full Veronica Lake style
eyebrow covering veil of tresses.
The dramatic side-swept part works perfectly with the On-The-Side
pony that nestled onto Carrie's shoulder and offsets her classic
heart shaped face.
The key to copying Carrie's hairstyle is the fact that the hair
is silky straight throughout the crown and sides and has a hint of
soft wavy texture in the pony section. Which means that the
strands must be blow dried straight to create this smooth finish.
2. Use a flat brush to smooth hair along the hairline and
the sides.
3. Pull all hair into a traditional ponytail. You
have the option to position the base of the pony behind the ear or
position the base flush with the ear lobe like Carrie's style.
Use a
Bungee Band,
Blax
or similar "hair friendly" elastic band in the same color as your
hair.
It should be noted that not only is Carrie's pony positioned over
her ear and in front of it. the front side-swept section flows into
the ponytail base providing the illusion of a seamless connection
between the front part of the hair and the ponytail base.
4. Wrap a small section of hair from the pony length around
the base and pin it securely so that the bobby will not show.
5. Use a large barrel curling iron to create fullness with a
slight hint of curve. Unlike Amy's side do, Carrie's hair
looks full and lush with only a slight wave.
6. When hair is completely curled and cooled, spray well with
firm holding styling spray like
PhytoPro Strong Finishing Spray.
7. Apply a light touch of
shine product to add shimmer. Remember not to
apply too much shine product.
8. For extra dazzle, attach a jeweled ponytail wrap or pin
a simple jeweled bobby along the hairline.
To Create Paula Abdul's On-The-Side Style With Full Crown
 |
|
Paula Abdul
2005 |
|
DailyCeleb.com - All rights reserved. |
Complete the basic Getting Started Steps
listed above.
The key to Paul's hairstyle is to create lots of lush volume and
lift throughout the sides and the crown. Paula also has
sections of hair that cross-over from the crown to one side and are
directed forward to add additional lift and movement.
Her Big Volume style combined with a slight pony pulled forward
and over to one side not only balances her heart shaped face, it
directs attention to her gorgeous gown.
1. Once tresses are completely dry, create the
desired part and fringe or bang area.
2. To re-create Paula's lush sexy crown volume you will
need to combine volume enhancing products (shampoo, root lift) with
back combing.
3. Separate bangs and clip out of the way. Clip all of
the hair except for a one inch
section at the nape of the neck out of the way.
Take the one inch section of hair and pull it
tight. Using a comb with tightly spaced teeth, gently
back comb it up towards the scalp.
4.
Focus on directing the back combed hair towards the root area about 2 inches from the actual
roots. Consistently pack the hair tightly towards the scalp to
achieve a strong base to for a bigger overall style.
For more details click on the link to
How To Back Comb Your Hair for
step by step instructions.
Note: Repeat the back combing process working
completely around your head from side to side until all
of your hair is backcombed to the height and volume you
desire. Take your time and focus on using a
consistent back combing technique.
5. After you have achieved the desired fullness
and height, spray well with a strong finishing spray
like
PhytoPro Strong Finishing Spray or similar.
Let the hairspray dry while you move to the next section
of hair.
6. Use your hands or a Mason Pearson, Kent or similar boar's bristle brush to
gently smooth all the teased hair down. Use a flat
brush to gently smooth hair along the hairline and the sides.
7. Pull the hair in back into a traditional ponytail that
has a base that rests to one side of the nape of the neck like
Paula's. You also have the option to position the base of the
pony behind the ear or position the base flush with the ear lobe.
Use a
Bungee Band,
Blax
or similar "hair friendly" elastic band in the same color as your
hair.
8. Wrap a small section of hair from the pony length around
the base and pin it securely so that the bobby will not show.
9. Use a large barrel curling iron to create fullness with a
slight hint of curve. Paula has only a slight hint of curve
along the length of her side pony.
10. When hair is completely curled and cooled, spray well with
firm holding styling spray like
PhytoPro Strong Finishing Spray.
To Create Julianne Hough's On-The-Side Twisted Style
Julianne Hough is the essence of beauty and sheer
romance with her soft over-the-side twisted pony style
that cascades down from an off-center part combined with
loose sassy hairline strands and the appearance of
twisted sides.
The two time champion of ABC's Dancing With The Stars has a
gorgeous face and lush blonde highlighted strands that look
spectacular when worn on-the-side. Julianne has worn this
style on Red Carpets and on stage while performing her award winning
dance routines.
Complete the basic Getting Started Steps listed above.
1. Once tresses are completely dry, create the
desired part and fringe or bang area.
Julianne has an off-center part that extends all the way back
from the front of hairline back to the crown.
Loose sections of slightly twisted strands have been pulled out
from the sides and allowed to nestle along the perimeter of
Julianne's face creating a softening to her square shaped jaw and
chin areas.
2. Use a boar's bristle brush or fingertips to smooth hair
along the hairline and the sides.

3. Pull all hair into a very loose ponytail. You have
the option to position the base of the pony behind the ear or
position the base to the far side of the nape of the neck like
Julianne's. Use a
Bungee Band,
Blax
or similar "hair friendly" elastic band in the same color as your
hair.
It should be noted that not only is Julianne's pony positioned
over her ear and in front of it, the front and side section flows
into the ponytail base providing the illusion of a seamless
connection between the front part of the hair and the ponytail base.
This is a similar style to Carrie Underwood's side pony.
4. Wrap a small section of hair from the pony length around
the base and pin it securely so that the bobby will not show.
5. Since Julianne's hair is pulled into a twisted three strand
braid, separate hair into three individual strands and twist each
strand as you braid. Wrap a section of hair around the base of
the braid and pull the tail up into a loop and pin it into the braid
for a finished end.
6. When hair is completely styled, spray well with firm
holding styling spray like
PhytoPro Strong Finishing Spray.
7. Apply a light touch of
shine product to add shimmer. Remember not to
apply too much shine product.
8. For extra dazzle, pin a simple jeweled bobby along the
hairline.
To Create Molly's Casual On-The-Side Style
 |
|
Molly Sims
2005 |
|
DailyCeleb.com - All rights reserved. |
Molly Sims combines a stark side part and
off-the-face hairline with a stream of soft sleek hair
pulled in front of her ear and worn to one side.
The look is clean, casual yet edgy and with a hint of
sophistication.
Since the former supermodel has a gorgeous face, she easily rocks
the off-the-face, hair on the side look. Her style is very
easy to re-create at home and doesn't even require freshly washed
hair, unless that is desired.
Complete the basic Getting Started Steps
listed above or if desired, go with day-old hair.
1. Create the desired part and fringe or bang
area.
Molly has a messy, deep side part that merges into her hairline
giving an edgy separation.
2. Use a boar's bristle brush or fingertips to smooth hair
along the hairline and the sides.
 |
|
Molly Sims
2005 |
|
DailyCeleb.com - All rights reserved. |
3. Pull all hair from one side and direct it
along the back and in front of the alternate side.
It appears that Molly has simply pulled all her hair to one side
of her head for a casual sexy look.
While it is easy to redirect all the hair to one side, it may not
hold for the long term if it is not secured with discreetly placed
hair accessories. If you wish to create a more secure
over-one-should style, place a series of bobby pins or large
rectangular barrette along the back of the head to direct all hair
to one side.
4. Use a wide barrel curling iron to create loose
waves/curls throughout the length of the hair pulled to the side.
Let hair cool completely.
5. When hair is completely styled, spray well with firm
holding styling spray like
PhytoPro Strong Finishing Spray.
6. Apply a light touch of
shine product to add shimmer. Remember not to
apply too much shine product.
Molly's current casual style can instantly be dressed up by
pulling it into a pony like Amy's or adding lots of volume around
the crown like Paula's hairdo. The beauty of Molly's current
style is that it is soft and sexy but definitely relaxed.
Summary
Side-gathered hairstyles that caress one side of the
neck are a hit with celebrity hairdressers as well as
their celebrity clients. Famous hairdresser
Jimmy Paul who has worked with a wide range of celeb
heads over the years was quoted in the September 2007
issue of Allure Magazine as saying, "soft
wispy hair that shows off a woman's neck is just so
feminine".
Whether you combine the side-swept tresses with a deliberate side
part or not, Jimmy says "it's a great way to show off healthy,
glossy hair" and it works on both updos and loose down around the
neck styles.
Try some of the different styles featured above and you can
instantly change your hairstyle and create a wide range of moods. |
