Name
That Celebrity!
OK, I knew that the first Mystery Celebrity last
month was going to be fairly easy, but I thought sure the second one would
be a challenge. It probably would have been had it not been for one
little thing:
VH1's "Before They Were Stars"
used the exact same friggin' photo on a recent episode.
And, judging by the number of correct entries I received,
there are tremendous number of VH1 fans out there. For the few of
you that were watching CNN instead, the Mystery Celebrities were...
Mystery Celebrity
#1: JENNA ELFMAN
Mystery Celebrity
#2: GLORIA ESTEFAN

In case you care, the most popular wrong answers
were Ashley Judd for #1 and Madonna for #2 (which does look quite a bit
like Madonna's high school photos). One person even thought they
were the same person, which, now that I think about it, isn't a bad idea...but
I digress. Anyway, the first person to guess them correctly was...
Teresa Stonestreet!
Way to go Teresa. The next 9 in order
were KellyAnn Hagendoorn (who lost to Teresa by a mere 17 minutes),
Sarah Kirkish, Kathleen C., Tiffany, Allison,
Sonya Fydenkevez, Kara, Camille McClellan, and Sarah
Armstrong. Looks like I may have to reserve a permanent spot
for KellyAnn, Allison, and Sonya soon. J

On to this month's contest. As usual, I give
you either a picture of a celebrity from early in their life or career
with some completely different look or I disguise a current picture.
You then have to tell me who the celebrity in question is. Simple
enough? Of course.
I must admit that I was intrigued by the "two pictures
of the same celebrity" concept I mentioned above. So, let's try that
this time with and old picture and a newer one. Hey, it couldn't
be any easier than the last few months could it? So tell me,
Who's the celebrity pictured in the two photos
below?
Mystery Celebrity:

Your only hint this time is that it ISN'T
Madonna. In fact, that guess wouldn't even be in the ballpark...though
you wouldn't need to change sports.

As usual, THE FIRST PERSON to send
me the correct answer gets a hearty virtual handshake and pat on the back...and
their name featured in the next column. The next nine just get their
name in the column. Sure, it's a subtle difference, but those yellow
letters don't come cheap. Good Luck!
Did
Ya Know?
Last month I tossed out the tease in my tidbit on
Linda Hamilton that since she and James Cameron (who wanted her to cut
her hair for "Terminator 2") split, it is
vaguely ironic that his new love, SUZY
AMIS, has just recently finally regrown her red hair
very long after cutting it short from extremely long a few years back.
Ok, I admit that it's a stretch to tie those two things together, but hey,
it give me a lead in to talk about Suzy's hair adventure.
An
ex-model, Suzy had appeared in supporting roles in several small films
in the late '80s and early '90s. Despite the varying roles, Suzy
managed to retain her most recognizable feature, her waist-length red hair.
In 1992, she was given her big break: a starring role in the film "The
Ballad of Little Jo", the story of a woman who moves out west, disguises
herself as a man, and lives the remainder of her life as a rancher named
"Little Jo". The only downside? Suzy had to cut her hair.
Short. On camera. HERSELF.
Much
to Suzy's credit, she went through with it and "The
Ballad of Little Jo", though largely ignored by the movie-going
public, garnered very good reviews for Suzy. She then managed to
parlay that positive buzz into a variety of higher profile roles in flicks
such as "The Usual Suspects", "Blown
Away" and "Titanic". During the
succeeding years, she continued to let her hair grow back out to the point
where it's now essentially back to where it was when she started.
Sure,
you may say that she didn't really gain all that much from the sacrifice,
since she's still primarily a supporting actress. Then again, I would
argue that her supporting roles got MUCH better. Plus, she's dating
James Cameron.
Uh...did I mention her supporting roles got much
better?
As usual,
